What is going on in the area? Why is there construction along Eglinton? What is the Crosstown?

While construction for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT is currently ongoing, many are still unclear about what the Crosstown is, and what it will mean once complete. Recently, we took to social media to see what our followers know about the Crosstown.

What is the Eglinton Crosstown?

The Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (LRT) project is a 19-kilometre rapid transit line coming to Toronto on Eglinton Avenue, stretching from Mount Dennis in the west, to Kennedy in the east.

Just how many kilometres will be underground?

A bit of a trick question where we wanted to know only about the underground portion. While the entire line will stretch over 19-kilometres, 10-kilometres of the line will be underground, with the rest running at street level in a dedicated right-of-way transit lane.

It seems that most know that the Eglinton Crosstown LRT will be up to 60% faster than the existing bus service along Eglinton.

Our poll on how many stations and stops would be along the line was close!

The answer? 25 stations and stops will get you where you need to go. Expected completion of the entire line is scheduled for 2021.

With construction well underway for the Crosstown, there have been some significant milestones and engineering feats. Many knew that Kodak Building 9 was moved back in early November based on our question:

But did you know about some of the other milestones along the way?

The Eglinton Crosstown LRT will make commuting along Eglinton easier, and we’re sure to see some new and exciting milestones along the way! Follow us on social media for photos of construction progress, updates, and more!
